The new Cornelius stop on the Charlotte area’s comedy circuit is busy this weekend as events producer Bella Love hosts the monthly Standup Comedy Showcase. The event Saturday night, March 28, includes eight local comedians in a show hosted by local laugh-man Brian Briscoe.

Doors open at 7:30 and the show begins at 8 at the Oak Street Mill, 19725 Oak St., behind the police department in downtown Cornelius.

Who are these laugh specialists? Read on for more about some of this month’s featured comics: (Warning: Some biographical information may be totally inaccurate.)

Briscoe 2

Brian Briscoe is a both an improv and stand up comedian. He is the product of a beautiful divorce that led to twice as many birthdays, Christmases and parental body slams (it builds character). Come witness his wacky point of view and occasional tomfoolery.

Sherard Ampsten Hews Cohen (Kyran Scott photo)

Sherard Ampston Hews Cohen is a native of Greensboro by way of Anson County. Having recently celebrated his 1 year anniversary in the comedy game, he had this to say when asked about Saturday’s show: “I can promise you, I’ll be on my worst behavior. Let’s get it!”

Benjamin Grenon calls himself a “Charlotte transplant native.” OK, we’re not sure what that means. His wife doesn’t think he’s funny, but when he does stand-up the joke’s on her … literally! Ben likes staying inside. Especially at the beach. He says, “Keep your romantic walks. I’ll be inside with AC and internet.” All-in-all Ben is a sly, smug, stylish S.O.B who believes that alliteration makes “facts” facts.

Burston Tyrone has a unique outlook on his upbringing in the hood, drawing inspiration from his “high yellow” skin complexion and family. Born and raised in Hartford, CT, he’s been living in Charlotte NC for the past 8 years. At 31 years old Tyrone, a financial analyst by day, began his stand-up comedy career 2 years ago. Audience members have deemed him as very funny and entertaining, a natural. Check him out Saturday and see how he is living up to his name, Tyrone is truly ‪#‎Burstonwithcomedy‬!

(Evolution Frost photo)

(Evolution Frost photo)

Evolution Frost. Raised in the south Bronx and transported to NC as a teen, E. Frost’s northern wit and love of the south allows him to break barriers of any kind. From racial and sexual hang-ups, to the idiocy of modern society… no topic is off limits. His logic: to survive in a cold world, you have to think cold. It’s the law of evolution. Project codename: Evolution Frost.

Tina Marie

Tina Marie

Tina Marie was born and partly raised in New Jersey. She has been on the comedy circuit since last July and says she’s inspired and fueled by helping others. “Being a female in this male dominated industry has given me a male attitude,” she said.

Billy Calloway (Addie Anderson photo)

Billy Calloway (Addie Anderson photo)

Billy Calloway has been known to Hula Hoop with a Cheerio and hang glide with a Dorito. His sense of humor has no bounds. He can offend anyone and likes the challenge. His favorite things in life are beer, wings, and Cougars. Being a USMC veteran and father of one, uncle to many, his life is never boring. This poker champion is sure to make you laugh, or at least question your life choices. Nothing is out of bounds for skinny white guy from race city USA.

Also performing: Kenny Khang and Ryan Davis.
